QRdx

Release notes

Changelog

New features, improvements and fixes in QRdx, newest first.

  1. qrdx 0.0.47 and @qrdx/cli 0.0.5

The first library and CLI release since March: new patterns, eyes and frames, Logo QR and Image QR art, print-ready files and a scan score.

    • Developers
    • CLI

    New styles

    • 14 body patterns, including liquid, classy, mosaic, random-dots, heart and star. liquid and classy join neighbouring modules into one smooth shape.
    • 9 eye frames and 13 eye centres, such as leaf, drop, squircle, shield and flower. leaf, drop and petal eyes turn to face their corner of the code.
    • 20 call-to-action frames with the frame option: banners, speech bubbles, a polaroid, a phone, a ticket, a menu card and more. Set the label, a second label and the label size.
    • See every option drawn live at qrdx.dev/docs/styles.

    Colors and fit

    • Per-eye colors: eyeColors gives each corner eye its own outer and inner color or gradient.
    • Module scale: moduleScale (0.5 to 1) shrinks the modules for a spaced-out look. Each pattern stops at the smallest size that still scans.
    • Auto error level: autoLevel raises the level to H when a logo covers more than 7% of the code.
    • Logo padding: imageSettings.padding adds clear space around a logo.
    • bgColor="transparent" leaves the background empty in PNG, SVG, PDF and EPS.

    Logo QR and Image QR

The art option blends a logo or photo into a real, scannable code. It is vector output with no AI. See Art QR.

    • Logo QR has two looks: blend traces the logo into crisp shapes under a fine dot screen, and badge puts the logo on a plate in the middle of a code tinted with its colors.
    • Image QR shows a photo in full color (color) or as a black-and-white halftone (mono).
    • matchEyes colors the corner eyes from the logo.
    • EPS export for print shops and design tools.
    • Print-ready PDF, SVG and EPS at an exact physical size, with bleed, crop marks and CMYK colors.
    • Linear and radial gradients stay smooth in PDF and EPS (native vector shadings, in CMYK too) instead of printing as their first color.

    Will it scan?

    • getScanScore estimates how reliably a design scans, and getImageScanScore checks an image you already have.
    • getStylePairRisk warns about eye and pattern pairs that some scanners struggle with.

    Retired styles

curly eyes and diamond, star and banner eye centres are no longer offered, because some phone scanners can't read them. Saved designs that use them still render, but the CLI no longer accepts them.

    Upgrading from 0.0.46

    • QRCode no longer adds a logo unless you pass logo.
    • react and react-dom are now peer dependencies. PDF export needs jspdf, which you install yourself, and qrdx no longer installs sharp.
    • QRCodeSVG and QRCode work in React Server Components.
    • The qrdx command moved to its own package: run npx @qrdx/cli generate.

    @qrdx/cli 0.0.5

    • Every new pattern, eye, eye centre and frame. Add a frame with --frame, --frame-text, --frame-color and --frame-text-color.
    • EPS output: -o qr.eps, or --format eps.
    • Logos are drawn into PNG output.
    • Clear errors for bad flag values, listing the accepted ones.
    • It installs without sharp where your platform doesn't support it. SVG and EPS still work.
  2. v0.1.0

Dynamic QR codes, hosted pages and teams

QRdx becomes a platform: codes you can change after printing, mobile pages, smart routing, custom domains, teams, an API and new art styles.

    • Dynamic codes
    • Teams
    • Developers
    • Art QR

    Dynamic QR codes

Print a code once and change where it points later. Every dynamic code is a short link that counts its scans, with when, where and on which device.

    • Organize with tags and folders, duplicate a code, restore an earlier version, and bring deleted codes back from the trash.
    • Control each code: pause it, add a password, set start and end dates, cap the number of scans and choose a fallback URL.
    • Smart routing sends each scan to a different URL by device, country, language, time or scan count, runs A/B tests and adds UTM parameters. Learn more.
    • Your codes keep working. A downgrade, failed payment or cancellation never stops a code from redirecting. Read the guarantee.

    Hosted pages and forms

    • Build a mobile landing page for a code from blocks, with no website needed: link lists, business pages, contact cards, menus, coupons, events and app downloads.
    • Collect answers with forms and read them in a response inbox.
    • Upload PDFs, images, audio and video for your pages.
    • Add tracking pixels and measure conversions on paid plans.

    Custom domains and notifications

    • Serve short links from your own domain.
    • Get email alerts, a weekly digest, and Slack or Discord messages when your codes are scanned or a form gets a response.
    • Signed webhooks for scans, code changes and form responses, ready for Zapier, Make and n8n.

    Teams and plans

    • Invite people to a team workspace with roles, and share codes and themes.
    • Three plans: Free, Pro ($5 a month or $48 a year) and Business ($15 a month or $144 a year), with prices in rupees for India. See pricing.

    For developers

    • A REST API for dynamic codes, with OAuth scopes.
    • The image API returns a QR code as SVG, PNG or EPS from a URL, with no API key.
    • The MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other AI assistants make QR codes.
    • Add QR code components to your app from the shadcn/ui registry.

    Art and export

    • Logo QR and Image QR blend a logo or photo into the modules of a real, scannable code. They are vector and free. See Art QR.
    • AI art v2: style presets, QR visibility and creativity controls, seeds, up to four variations per run, a 2x upscale for print and monthly credits of its own.
    • EPS export for print in the editor, the qrdx library, the CLI, the image API and the MCP server.
    • The editor adds padding control, frames, a scan score and print sizes.

    New on the site

  3. v0.0.6

Faster pages, safer accounts and self-hosting

Server-rendered pages, link previews, a tighter security model, library fixes and a documented way to run QRdx yourself.

    • Performance
    • Security
    • Self-hosting

    Faster, easier to find

    • Pages render on the server again, so they show content sooner and search engines can read them.
    • Links to QRdx, blog posts and docs pages now unfurl with a preview image in chats and social posts.
    • The blog has an RSS feed, new illustrations, a table of contents on phones and a new guide, Understanding QR codes, with an interactive error-correction demo.
    • New comparison pages put QRdx next to other generators and libraries, with sourced and dated facts.

    Security

    • Stricter checks on AI image URLs, rate limits on AI and sign-in routes, and a free AI quota that can't be overspent.
    • Integration tokens are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and integration sign-ins verify their state.

    qrdx library and CLI

    • qrdx no longer adds a logo by default, respects the size prop, works in React Server Components and lists React as a peer dependency. PDF export's jsPDF is now optional.
    • Fixes for QR detection, contrast checks and eye patterns.
    • @qrdx/cli draws logos into PNG output, validates its flags and installs without sharp when your platform doesn't support it (SVG still works).

    Run it yourself

QRdx now ships a Dockerfile and a Compose file, with a self-hosting guide. It boots with three environment variables and one sign-in provider; optional services switch off cleanly when they aren't configured.

  4. v0.0.5

    Google Drive integration

Turn Google Drive files and folders into QR codes, straight from the editor.

    • Integrations

    Google Drive

    • Pick a file or folder — connect Google Drive in the editor, browse your files and turn a file's or folder's share link into a QR code.
    • No connection needed for links — paste a Google Drive, Docs, Sheets or Slides link and QRdx encodes it as it is.

    Integration pages

Each integration now has its own page that shows what it can do and what it needs, from creating short links to picking files, so you know before you connect an account.

  5. v0.0.4

Theme previews and Dub short links

Preview and share community themes, sort them by what's popular this week, and put Dub short links in your QR codes.

    • Community
    • Integrations

    Community themes

    • Preview before you use — open any theme in a larger preview, step to the next or previous one, and share a link to it.
    • Popular this week — sort by the most liked themes this week, this month or of all time, or by newest.
    • Simpler filtering — pick one tag at a time to narrow the list.
    • Like counts load faster and stay in sync between the list and the preview.

Connect your Dub account in the editor to create a new short link or pick an existing one, and use it as the content of your QR code. Already have a Dub link? Paste it in without connecting anything.

    Also new

    • A new preset theme, Pastel Dreams.
    • Delete your account and its data from the settings page.
  6. v0.0.3

QR codes from the command line

The @qrdx/cli package generates styled QR codes in your terminal and in CI, plus an agent skill for AI coding assistants.

    • CLI
    • Developers

    @qrdx/cli

Generate a styled QR code without opening a browser:

    npx @qrdx/cli generate "https://example.com" -o qr.svg
    • SVG or PNG — the file extension picks the format.
    • The same styles as the editor — body, corner eye and corner dot patterns, solid colors or gradients, a center logo and decorative templates.
    • Made for scripts and CI — every option is a flag, so it runs without prompts. Run it in a terminal without options and it walks you through the choices instead.
    • Install it globally with npm install -g @qrdx/cli to get the qrdx command.

An agent skill for AI coding assistants

The generate-qr skill teaches AI coding agents to make QR codes with the CLI: links, plain text, Wi-Fi logins and contact cards, in your colors and with your logo. It follows the open Agent Skills format.
